Meet Your Therapist
Hi! I’m Paula Evans, LCSW, and before a major life changing situation took place years ago, I worked in the corporate world, delivering technical support and customer service to people all over the country. I loved talking with others, brightening their day, troubleshooting their issues, and giving them a personal and timely resolution. Critical thinking, problem solving, and genuinely listening became my way of life. Then, along with over 150 others, I found myself out of a job with lots of uncertainty. That lead to starting college for a therapy degree, attending GTCC, NCA&T, and UNCG, all the way through to a Masters degree in Social Work and a new passion in life!
Now, after working in this field for 12+ years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina, I specialize in trauma, am certified in EMDR, and have a passion to help people work through complex trauma and PTSD. I also have over a decade of experience as a true generalist in many other areas, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, relationships, grief, self-esteem issues, life transitions, and spiritual concerns. I’ve worked in integrated settings, urban and rural primary care offices, privately owned and non-profit organizations, and now a solo practice. Common therapies I use include CBT, Acceptance and Commitment, EMDR, Family Systems, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, Problem-Solving, spiritual counseling, and more. It’s been quite the amazing and educational journey!
Look, I get life can be very complicated and we find ourselves feeling like others just don’t understand. I, thankfully, have had the benefit of living a life with lots of complex variety. This has taught me how to sit with people from all over, with varying outlooks on politics, religion, finances, parenting styles, career choices, and all kinds of other sensitive topics. I can be that “ear” that listens, without judgement, is on your side, and helps you figure out what’s holding you back. Together we will learn what your inner wounds are, work through them, strengthen your self-worth, and give you lots of tools to start walking down that path of life again, with a sense of accomplishment, focus, and a new lease on life. You deserve that and more.

Insurance and Fees
Session fees:
Your insurance will be billed and they will specify what the coverage amount is according to the contract established. You will only be paying your deductible or copay, also determined by your insurance company.
For Private Pay, sessions are $125. Limited exceptions are available for sliding-scale.
Consultation policy:
I offer a complimentary 15 minute phone conversation to prospective clients interested in therapy with me. This helps us determine if we would be a good fit. We will briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, what you’d like to work on, how I could help, and any general questions you may have. It’s not a therapy session and not intended for assessment, diagnosis, or treatment. It’s intended to be brief and without much depth, but to start the conversation. At the end, we will discuss what makes sense for you and there is no obligation. If we feel we are a good fit, we will schedule your initial therapy session and intake process.
Good faith estimate (No surprises act):
Under federal law, individuals who are uninsured or who do not intend to use insurance have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling services. Your estimate would reflect the services and frequency of care anticipated at the time the estimate is prepared. Actual services and frequency of treatment may vary based on your clinical needs.
Cancellation Policy:
Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice or missed appointments may be subject to a $60.00 fee that is billed to you and not payable by insurance.
Insurances In-Network:
Aetna, BCBS, Cigna/Evernorth, Health Team Advantage, Humana, Medcost, Medicare, TriCare East, United Healthcare/Optum. (Feel free to contact me to assess if I cover any subsidiaries of insurances listed above or check with your insurance company to see if they list me as “in-network”.)
Insurances Out of Network:
If I am out of network with your insurance plan, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement vary by plan, so I recommend contacting your insurance company before beginning therapy to confirm your out-of-network mental health benefits.
Payment methods: Payment is due at the time of service and methods available include credit/debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and cash.

FAQs
Q. What happens in the first session?
A. We talk over your concerns, goals, and the big picture of your life. Three main areas include: your physical health and habits (like sleep and energy), some basic history of your life, and your day to day world (like your job, family, pets, stress levels, etc).
Q. How long is a session?
A. Generally around 50 minutes, but they can be shorter if needed.
Q. How often would we meet?
A. That varies by each person and their needs. It’s something we can talk about and see what you feel is best for you.
Q. Is therapy right for me? Is it confidential?
A. Yes. Therapy offers many things, including a confidential, non-judgmental space to talk and be your honest, genuine self; tools to use in daily life; an outside, educated perspective that adds insight to accomplishing your goals; help getting past those “stuck points” that are keeping us from moving forward. There’s a lot to gain from therapy if you’d like to try.
Q. What insurance and payments do you take?
A. See Insurances and Fees page for details.
Contact me today for your 15 minute, free consultation and we can talk about what’s best for you.
